Uralchem Trading largest company in transport and logistics industry in Latvia in 2012

Agricultural chemistry and fertilizer producer Uralchem Trading was the leader in Latvia's transport and logistics industry last year, when the company's turnover amounted to LVL 855.92 million, according to the Latvian Business Report 2013 collated by Latvijas Talrunis, Firmas.lv and Nozare.lv, writes LETA.

Rail transport company LDz Cargo ranked second with a turnover of LVL 278.23 million, followed by national airline airBaltic – LVL 194.71 million, and railroad infrastructure manager and transport company Latvijas Dzelzcels – LVL 162.04 million.

The other top ten companies in the transport and logistics industry last year were Moller Baltic Import – with a turnover of LVL 108.12 million, Rigas satiksme – LVL 97.87 million, LDz ritosa sastava serviss – LVL 97.46 million, Skonto metals – LVL 66.61 million, Alpa Centrums – LVL 64.45 million, and Baltijas tranzita serviss – LVL 56.6 million.

Association Latvijas auto Preasident Valdis Trezins points out that there is no reason to expect increases in cargo volumes in the near future. Cargo transportation volumes reaching the level of 2012 is the best case scenario.

International cargo transportation by road has grown several percentage points. The Russian market, which is currently rather inactive, is among the most important factors in this regard, explains Trezins.
