Liepaja Port cargo turnover down 31.5% in January-July

Liepaja Port handled 2.77 million tons of cargo in January-July 2013, 31.5 percent less than in the same period in 2012, the Liepaja Special Economic Zone's public relations specialist Liga Ratniece-Kadege informed LETA.

In July 2013, Liepaja Port handled 283,400 tons of cargo, a 47.5 percent decrease on July 2012. Bulk cargo accounted for the largest share of the port's cargo turnover - 53.5 percent, followed by general cargo - 36.5 percent, and liquid cargo - 10 percent. The port also serviced 103 ships and 3,997 passengers.

Grain and grain products constituted the largest share in bulk cargo turnover in July 2013. General cargo turnover was negatively affected by "Liepajas metalurgs" problems. Oil products and crude oil accounted for the largest share of liquid cargo.
